The news was surprising and unexpected. On March 8, 2019, after 45 years, Portsmouth based Bavarian Autosport shut down the call center and closed it’s doors forever. This was sad news for me. Bavarian Autosport, or BavAuto as they were known in the industry, was a catalog company centered around the BMW and MINI brands. And, they were my first big corporate client. I had my first shoot for them in the fall of 2013. At the time I was still slinging checking accounts for a large bank and I was just trying to get this photography thing off the ground. Somehow my business card landed on the desk of creative director, and all around fantastic person, Nancy Kanner and she decided to take a risk with a local, green photographer. Thankfully that first shoot went well and led to my working with them at least once per year after that.
For the last 6 years I could open any BavAuto catalog and pick out a number of images I’d created for them. I have always found seeing my work in print to be a huge confidence boost so I looked forward to receiving the quarterly catalogs in the mail and flipping through the pages to see what they had used. But, most of all, I liked working with Nancy and the other people in the BavAuto creative department. I am really going to miss working with them and hope they all land firmly on their feet doing bigger and better things.
Below is a very small selection of some of my favorites from the work I did for BavAuto with a few behind the scenes photos thrown in.
