BOO! It’s October!

Well, that’s a wrap on Summer 2023 and what can you say about it? If it wasn’t raining it was a zillion degrees. Personally, I am ready for Autumn! Bring on the crisp, dry air, the apple cinnamon everything (or pumpkin spice if that’s your thing), the return of wearing hoodies, and of course Halloween!

The Studio was busy in September. Here’s a look at what I’ve been up to.

Lime Rock Park Historic Festival 41

September began loud and fast when over Labor Day weekend I once again found myself working at my favorite place in the world, Lime Rock Park. This time for the annual Historic Festival. The Lime Rock Historic Festival is a unique event because it really feels like three events in one. It spans five total days, Thursday through Monday. It begins with a race car parade that meanders a scenic route past farmland and through the surrounding towns culminating in a free-to-the-public street fair in Falls Village. The next two days are jam-packed with on-track action. On the fourth day, Sunday, the track shuts down racing activity and hosts one of the most impressive car shows in the country. The front straight is filled with a truly awe-inspiring Concourse d’elegance and the rest of the track is lined with show cars organized by marque. The show wraps all the way around Lime Rock’s 1.5 mile length. And then the whole thing wraps up on Labor Day with one more day of racing.

HF weekend is long, exhausting, and challenging, and I absolutely love every second of it.

Due to my exclusivity contract with Lime Rock Park, I can’t share many photos here. But, here is a small sample of a few of my favorites.

NEMBC 2023

I was contracted to be the official photographer for the New England Mortgage Bankers Conference in Portsmouth. This was a great event to cover and it really reminded me of what I love most about event coverage work. I got to meet so many lovely people from all over New England and was given full creative license to cover the event as I saw fit. The organizers were wonderful to work with and I even found some of the information, especially information about social media marketing, to be really useful. Even for a non-banker like me.

With two full days of speakers and panels to cover as well as a party at the end of day one, I was kept on my toes. It was a blast. I am definitely hopeful they call again next year.

Mutual Sales Beach Coverup Product Shoot

A couple of days after NEMBC I was back in the studio creating catalog images for Mutual Sales, Inc. out of Derby. This shoot was to highlight their new line of beach coverups. For this shoot, we had 2 models, sisters, alternating between being in front of the camera while the other changed into the next coverup. They were absolutely fantastic, patient, and everything you want out of models. The shoot flew by and honestly, I don’t think it could have gone any better. So much fun!

Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce

Golf Tournament

September wrapped up with another event to cover. This time at The Oaks Golf Links in Somersworth for the 49th Annual Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament.

Holy beautiful day Batman!

I spent the day riding around on my golf cart capturing posed team photos of all the teams and action photos of the players on the course. The only thing that could have made this day better was if I were playing myself. But, of course, since I wasn’t, I didn’t spend my day frustrated with every shank and missed putt. Instead, I spent my day laughing, shooting, and interesting people. So, you know, it was a good day.

I am excited to announce the latest release in my Wall Art Collection!

“Light Trails and The Memorial Bridge”

A black and white take on a subject that’s been photographed a zillion times. The weather on the night I took this photo was less than ideal, to say the least. Constant drizzle, occasional rain showers, wind, fog, mother nature offered up nothing good. But, there is an old saying that says “Bad weather makes for good photography.” In this case, I took advantage of the difficult conditions and turned them to my advantage finding a way to include the reflectiveness of the wet road and the light haze created by the fog.

  • What I'm watching...

Shaun of the Dead. This is probably my favorite movie in the zombie genre and possibly my favorite movie to watch around Halloween. Shaun of the Dead is the perfect mix of dry British humor, silly buddy comedy, and classic zombie horror with just the right amount of camp thrown in. If you’ve never seen it I can’t recommend it enough.

  •  What I'm reading...

Calico Joe by John Grisham. Calico Joe is a heart-wrenching and captivating story about forgiveness, redemption, and the power of baseball to heal old wounds. The novel weaves together the lives of two characters: Paul Tracey, the son of a former Major League Baseball pitcher, and Joe Castle, a rookie phenom who takes the baseball world by storm in 1973. When Paul's father, Warren, violently injures Joe with a fastball, the incident alters the course of all of their lives. Decades later, with Warren dying of cancer, Paul convinces his father to seek redemption for the impact he had on Joe's life, leading to an unexpected encounter that forces them both to confront their shared past and find a way toward forgiveness.

  • What I'm listening to...

Houndmouth. You know, I LOVE punk rock. I LOVE 90s grunge. I very often choose fast, heavy music that gets me moving. But sometimes, I just need to slow down and chill out, and recently I have been exploring the beautiful songwriting of Houndmouth. The storytelling in Houndmouth’s folk-inspired music is simply gorgeous and the arrangements are some of the best I’ve ever heard. I can’t recommend them enough. If you want to give them a try start with the album titled Little Neon Limelight and allow your worries to momentarily float away.

By the way, I love recommendations! Whether it’s a TV show, movie, book, or music, throw an email my way with what you think I should check out. I’d love to hear from you.

If you’ve made it this far I can only say thank you. Until next month take care of yourself and be kind to your fellow humans.

Cheers!

Shawn
